Professor Zuo Haicong, Professor Ji Wenhua and PhD student Wu Aijie attended the 17th "WTO w88 and China Forum" and the 2024 WTO w88 Academic Annual Meeting and made special speeches

School News Network (Contributed by w88 School)From December 14 to 15, 2024, the 17th "WTO w88 and China Forum" and the 2024 WTO w88 Academic Annual Meeting were held at Sun Yat-sen University with the theme of "Multiplelateralism and WTO Reform".

The conference is sponsored by the World Trade Organization w88 Research Association of the Chinese w88 Society and the Guangdong w88 Society, hosted by the w88 School of Sun Yat-sen University and the Foreign-related Rule of w88 Research Institute, and co-organized by the Sun Wanzhong Special Fund of the China w88 Exchange Foundation and the Sanya International Commercial Mediation Center. Li Rulin, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the Chinese w88 Society, Ye Xiangrong, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Provincial w88 Society, and Zhang Xiangchen, deputy director-general of the WTO, delivered speeches respectively. Zhang Liang, dean of the School of w88 of Sun Yat-sen University, read the speeches of Gao Song, deputy secretary of the Party Leadership Committee and president of Sun Yat-sen University.

Professor Zuo Haicong, Professor Ji Wenhua and PhD student Wu Aijie from the School of w88 of the University of International Business and Economics were invited to attend the annual meeting.

On December 14, Professor Ji Wenhua published a report entitled "Crisis and Resilience - Evolution and Thoughts on the Reform of the WTO Dispute Resolution Mechanism" in the "Multilateral and Regional" topic of the conference, comprehensively sorting out the reform and evolution of the WTO dispute resolution mechanism at different stages, emphasizing that in the context of challenges facing the multilateral trading system, its resilience and support are still widespread, providing important enlightenment for the direction of WTO reform and the sustainable development of the multilateral trading system.

On December 15, Professor Zuo Haicong delivered a special special report entitled "World Trade Organization Reform under the Great Changes in the World" at the closing ceremony of the conference. Combined with profound changes in the international economic pattern, he systematically analyzed the core issues of WTO reform from the perspective of combining history and reality, and put forward innovative policy suggestions on mechanism reform and the role of China from multiple dimensions, injecting new ideas into the optimization and development of international economic and trade rules.

Wu Aijie, a doctoral student in the School of w88, wrote a paper "Human Rights Trade Restriction Measures from the Perspective of GATT's Public Ethical Exception: Compliance Challenges and Responses", and won the third prize in this annual conference paper competition. According to reports, this forum received a total of 112 submissions, and after two-way anonymous comprehensive scores, 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 6 third prizes were awarded.

On December 15, Wu Aijie gave a special report on his winning paper during a special seminar on the "Economic Sanctions in the Perspective of the WTO".

This annual meeting has achieved fruitful results and enthusiastic exchanges. The teachers and students of the School of w88 of the University of International Business and Economics actively participated, fully demonstrating the efforts and achievements of our college in the cultivation of international economic and trade rule of w88 and foreign-related rule of w88 talents, and laying a good foundation for further promoting relevant research of our college and expanding its domestic influence and popularity.
